Biography

Thirukandeeswaram Swaminathan, MD, PhD graduated from Thanjavur Medical College, University of Madras, India. He completed his PhD in Neurosciences at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio. His doctoral work was on cognitive event related potentials in humans. He did postdoctoral work in clinical neurophysiology at The Institute of Neurology, Madras Medical College, Chennai, India. He worked as a neurophysiologist in Neurology Division, Department of Medicine, King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia followed by Mubarak Al Kabeer University Hospital, Kuwait. After this work in the Middle East, he did clinical fellowship in Sleep Medicine in the Department of Neurology, Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. He completed neurology residency at UMDNJ, Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey. He practiced as a neurologist in group practice setting at Guthrie Clinic, Sayre, Pennsylvania followed by Tri State Neurology, Memphis, Tennessee. He is currently practicing with the group Neuro Team One, Bingham Farms, Michigan. His academic appointments includes clinical tutorship in Saudi Arabis and Kuwait and currently as clinical assistant professor, Neurology Residency Program, Michigan State University and voluntary faculty as clinical assistant professor, Neurology department, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan. He is board certified in Neurology, Sleep Medicine and Epilepsy from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has published clinical research articles in peer reviewed national and international journals. He is currently involved with the clerkship program of medical students from Michigan State University and the neurology residency program at Garden City Hospital, Garden City, Michigan. He is also developing formal neurophysiology training program for neurology residents in the Garden City Hospital neurology residency program. His core clinical and research interests are in clinical neurophysiology.
