Kelsey Grellinger, PhD

Dr. Kelsey (Temprine) Grellinger is an Assistant Professor at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed). Dr. Grellinger received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin before spending a year at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) Trainee. She completed her PhD in Cancer Biology at Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in New York, New York, where her work focused on the role of error-prone DNA polymerases and stress-induced mutagenesis in the development of drug resistance in melanoma. She also completed two postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor in Cancer Biology and Physiology.

Dr. Grellinger teaches physiology and cancer biology topics in both the Medical Student (MD) and Master of Biomedical Sciences (MBS) curriculums. She also directs the M2 Renal and Genitourinary Systems course and the MBS Anatomy and Physiology 3 course. She is actively involved with both the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) and Association of STEMM Pathway and Bridge Programs (ASPBP)

Her scholarly work focuses on active learning, gamification, AI, and student engagement. In addition, as a Co-Director of the Promoting Excellence in Medical Education Distinction Program, she facilitates student involvement in medical education research and in developing and delivering content as part of the medical school curriculum. Through these efforts, she aims to optimize student learning and help develop future medical educators.
