Biography

Dr. Austin Fernstrum is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Fernstrum completed a surgery internship and Urology Residency at Case Western Reserve University. He chose to pursue a career in urology because he finds it gratifying to be able to offer care for conditions that can have such a profound impact on quality of life. Additionally, urology is an exciting field of medicine as it is always at the forefront of technology, providing leading edge treatment for patients. He is gratified working through medical challenges and hearing how the care or treatments have positively influenced his patients’ lives. He credits his mother as a large influence in his career. Working as a first assist for a general surgeon, she introduced Dr. Fernstrum to medicine and the operating room. He has special interests in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) as well as men’s health, kidney stones and cancers of the genitourinary tract. Outside of the office, Dr. Fernstrum enjoys spending time with his wife and children and partaking in hiking, biking, paddle boarding and sport clays. In his free time, he volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.
