Biography
Dr. Lauren Stokes is a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee where she earned a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After college, Dr. Stokes attended Indiana University School of Medicine where she was a Member of Medical Students for Choice and a Volunteer at Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic. Dr. Stokes completed her OBGYN Residency at York Hospital in York, PA.
Dr. Stokes was inspired to pursue a career in medicine when she heard a surgeon speak about his experience with global medicine. During her training she came to love the field of obstetrics and gynecology because she saw the intersection of medicine with complex social and historical influences. The daily life of an OB/GYN is always different and she loves the variety and new daily challenges. Dr. Stokes has a special interest in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, robotic surgery, menopause and group prenatal care.
The biggest impact in Dr. Stokes’ life has been learning the different perspectives of communities both locally and abroad. Her time volunteering with communities in Memphis, Tenn. and Savannah, Ga. showed her the great needs in our country like local conservation and women’s reproductive rights. Her travels abroad have given her a passion for our immigrant communities as well.
In her free time, Dr. Stokes loves outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking, cycling and skiing. She also loves to cook, especially over a campfire. She grew up playing in the orchestra and loves listening to live music.
