Biography

Andres Felipe Chala Rosado, MD, is a resident physician in the Psychiatry Residency Program at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the National University of Colombia, where he developed a deep passion for a multidimensional understanding of mental health, one that transcends the biological model. Motivated by his commitment to health equity and shaped by the devastating impact of armed conflict in his home country, Dr. Chala became actively involved in research and advocacy focused on understanding the mental health consequences of war. His work centered on identifying the needs of affected populations and fostering intersectoral collaboration to support their mental well-being. Dr. Chala is equally passionate about medical education. Guided by the belief that medical knowledge is only valuable when applied and shared for the benefit of society, he supported the pharmacology division at his medical school by serving as a tutor, helping students develop a lasting and meaningful understanding of pharmacological concepts. Additionally, he is dedicated to promoting physical activity as a powerful tool for mental health, and for health in general, believing it to be one of the most potent medical interventions available for the prevention and treatment of disease. His professional interests include psychopathology, health equity, social justice, psychopharmacology, medical education, and the role of physical activity in mental health.
