Biography

Meredith Essandoh, MD, is a general surgical resident at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine. She obtained her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine in 2024. With experiences in free clinics, street medicine for the homeless in Richmond, VA, and medical outreaches in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic, she has developed a profound understanding of healthcare disparities. Additionally, she has demonstrated leadership in student organizations focused on street medicine and teaching, serving as a Peer Assisted Learning tutor during medical school, covering all blocks and board exam preparation. Under the VCU SOM Dean’s Research Fellowship, she conducted research in cancer dormancy and relapse, immunotherapy, and healthcare outcomes in diverse settings, resulting in numerous presentations and abstracts. Her interests encompass medical education, rural surgery, global surgery, transplant surgery, and surgical critical care, all aimed at enhancing healthcare access and outcomes for underserved communities.
