Biography
Biography
Houssam Attal, MD, has Twenty-five years of working in both hospital and commercial laboratory practices with in-depth, up-to-date and comprehensive experience laboratory management and pathology anatomic and clinical practice. He has a Fellowship in Cytopathology from Wayne State University, completed residency (including Chief Resident) of Pathology from Loyola University Medical Center, and has obtained his Medical Doctorate from Damascus University School of Medicine.
He is Board Certified in Cytopathology and Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
His duties included (at various times):
● Director of Cytopathology
● Associate Medical Director – Corewell Health, Blodgett Campus
● Chairman - Department of Pathology
● Director of Pathology Laboratory
● Medical Director, Mecosta County Medical Center
He has participated in:
● Insured compliance with regulations and standards
● Assessed quality management systems and competency assessment
● Oversaw personnel supervision, facilities management and safety procedures
● Implemented test methods and procedures
● Communicated with medical staff at various organizational levels
● Designed and executed data management and Informatics systems
● Participated in consultation and educational programs
● Delegated functions to qualified individuals with retention of responsibility
● Effectively utilized resources and directed mentorship of younger staff members
● Participated in various quality, utilization, planning and implementation committees
● Conducted multiple laboratory inspections Gained in depth experience with most areas of general anatomic pathology
● Supported intra-operative consultations with immediate tissue assessment and triage
● Fellowship trained with and board certified in cytopathology
● Developed a special interest in GYN, head & neck, GI, GU, Cytopathology and Dermatopathology
● Achieved up-to-date knowledge in immunohistochemistry and molecular techniques and utilization
