Biography
Biography
Dr. Mohammad Omaira was born and raised in Damascus, Syria. He earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Damascus University School of Medicine in 2005. He then came to the United States to continue medical education. In 2011, he completed residency training in Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics at Hurley Medical Center/Michigan State University in Flint, Michigan. He then began his fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Michigan State University and graduated in 2014.
Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Omaira moved to Kalamazoo and joined the hematology/oncology group at West Michigan Cancer Center. In 2021, he joined Bronson’s Cancer Program in the same region. He has special interest in benign blood disorders and hematologic malignancies.
Dr. Omaira serves as Principal Investigator for several research studies in Southwest Michigan partnering with regional and national research programs such as Cancer Research Consortium of West Michigan (CRCWM), National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) and Dana Farber Cancer Institute to provide new cutting-edge clinical cancer trials to patients in our community.
Teaching and mentoring are very important to Dr. Omaira. He participates in various educational activities for residents and medical students at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine.
In early 2023, Dr. Omaira joined Michigan Society of Hematology and Oncology (MSHO) board of directors. He is looking forward to contribute to MSHO mission in providing advocacy and education to all members and support clinical research in Michigan.
