Biography

Laurence Batmazian, MD, JD, is a family medicine physician with Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is a graduate of Western University, London, Ontario. He earned his medical degree from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. He completed his family medicine residency at St. Michael's Hospital, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario. He has a law degree from the University of Michigan.

Before coming to Western Michigan, he did hospitalist work in underserved communities in southern Ontario, and mental health outpatient support with university students for several years. He also served as the physician lead for a homeless shelter medical outreach program.

His clinical and teaching interests include marginalized populations, mental health support, and inpatient hospitalist work. His research interest is in knowledge translation and advocacy involving the administrative state that underpins the modern healthcare system.
