Dr. Chris Haymaker is an educator and behavioral scientist whose work centers on creating learning environments that foster reflection, growth, and connection. Over the past five years, he has focused on advancing teaching and facilitation practices that help medical learners translate self-awareness into professional effectiveness. His teaching spans Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Med-Peds, Psychiatry, Orthopedic Surgery, and OB/GYN, with particular attention to communication, professionalism, and health equity.
Dr. Haymaker’s scholarship explores how reflective practice and intentional facilitation can strengthen learning communities and improve clinical education. His implementation research examines how innovations—such as communication coaching, well-being initiatives, and note-writing interventions—can be effectively integrated into residency training. He is also deeply interested in approaches to early intervention and remediation, seeking to better understand how programs can support learners who encounter challenges during training while promoting fairness, growth, and belonging.
Across his work, Dr. Haymaker is guided by the belief that professionalism in medicine requires humanism, and that meaningful education depends on curiosity, empathy, and courageous conversation.
