Biography
Biography
Peter Lapen, DO, is a Physiatrist. He graduated from University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where he was a US Navy Health Professions Scholar and Osteopathic Manipulations teaching assistant. After graduation in 2010, he completed a Transitional Year Internship at Navy Hospital Portsmouth, in Portsmouth, Virginia, while also attending the Combat Care Casualty Course (C4) at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX. He volunteered to serve as a General Medical Officer after completion of his intern year, and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment at Camp Lejeune, NC. There, he served as Battalion Surgeon for the ground combat element of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and deployed from March-December 2012. During that time he was embarked upon the USS NEW YORK and deployed throughout the Mediterranean and Middle East. While serving with Marine Corps infantry community, he developed his skills in managing sports injuries and post-concussion headaches. Upon Returning, he was transferred to Marine Special Operations Command, and attended the Walter Reed Tropical Medicine Course. For his service, Dr. Lapen was personally awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, the Army Achievement Medal and twice awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. After completion of his service obligation, he returned to graduate medical education, and began his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, IL in July 2015. There he participated in various research projects and delivered various lectures to co-residents and ancillary staff. During his rotations he developed particular interest in musculoskeletal medicine, interventional spine, pain management, and electrodiagnostic studies. He also sat as a member of the House Staff Governance Committee, assisting in ACGME regulatory compliance and resident satisfaction. He was appointed Co-Chief Resident for the 2017-2018 academic year and graduated residency in June 2018. Upon Graduation of residency, he accepted a Position with the Bronson Healthcare Group, Neuroscience Center where he is currently employed. His clinical, teaching, and research interests include concussion management, musculoskeletal/sports medicine, regenerative medicine, interventional spine and biomedical device development.
