Dr. Michael Leinwand is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and the Department of Surgical Sciences. He is Board Certified in Surgery, Surgical Critical Care and Pediatric Surgery. He is employed by the Bronson Healthcare Group. He is a graduate of the University of California-Los Angeles with a BS in Biological Sciences in May 1991. He earned his MD from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in May 1995. He completed a research fellowship in Pediatric Surgery from the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles in June 1999. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Southern California in June 2002. He went on to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Surgical Critical Care from Harvard University Children's Hospital of Boston in June 2003. He did another fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in June 2005. After completing his training in 2005, he joined the division of Pediatric Surgery at Bronson Children's Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He has a true passion for innovative minimally-invasive surgical techniques. He delights in combining his interests by playing guitar and singing for patients during rounds. He is most proud of his involvement in Crayons4Kids, a nonprofit organization that was founded by his 5 and 6 year old back in 2001. The mission of Crayons4Kids is to brighten the lives of hospitalized children by providing them with a wide variety of items including crayons, coloring books, toys, DVD's, DVD players, iPads, and musical instruments.
