Biography

Amar Arafat, DO, is a resident physician in the Psychiatry Residency Program at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at North Carolina State University (NCSU) and completed his medical degree with Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM).

Dr. Arafat has maintained his passion for community involvement throughout his academic career, serving as a Goodnight Scholar at NCSU from 2011-2016 and as the secretary for the Psychiatry Club at CUSOM from 2016-2018. His interest in psychiatry led him to voluntarily complete observerships in opioid treatment programs and inpatient psychiatry units in his didactic years. As a 4th year medical student, he completed away rotations at East Carolina University - Vidant Health (inpatient psychiatry) and Carolina Medical Center - Atrium Health (consult liaison psychiatry). He was nominated as a North Carolina Society of Addiction Medicine Scholar in March 2019 and received the Distinguished Clinical Scholar Award for psychiatry in the Raleigh region in May 2020 for his clinical performance during his clerkship years.
